Laura earned a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and math from Vanderbilt University. After five years in programming, she realized that she prefers working with people.
She has a Master of Oriental Medicine from the Dallas College of Oriental Medicine. This is a four year program that includes oriental theory, acupuncture, herbal medicine, anatomy and physiology, western pharmacology, and at least 2 years of clinical internship. In order to be licensed,
she passed national examinations in theory, acupuncture, herbs, point location, and biomedicine.
In addition to becoming a Texas licensed and nationally board certified acupuncturist, she has trained in facial rejuvenation,
auricular acupuncture detox, Dr. Tan's Balance Method,
treating peptic ulcer, multiple sclerosis, and side effects of chemotherapy.
Laura volunteers at the Homeward Bound treatment facility for alcohol and drug rehabilitation therapy. She holds an Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist certificate by the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association and has assisted in teaching detox protocol at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California in Tijuana, Mexico.
